Text Messaging Notification Service (TMNS) |
|||||||||||||
|
TMNS is a notification service that utilizes text messaging technology to provide updates on the status of School closure related to severe weather, natural disaster or other events. All SPH faculty, staff and students with a cellular phone having the capability to receive text messages can subscribe to TMNS by accessing the TMNS Subscribe page and providing their cellular phone number and service provider. Employees and students, in subscribing to the service, accept any charges imposed by their cellular provider for receipt of text messages, including test messages and event notification messages. The SPH will not reimburse for charges. |

Subscribing to TMNS |
Employees and students interested in subscribing to TMNS must log on to a secure Web page using their LSUHSC computer user id and password. They will be asked to enter your cellular phone number, cellular service provider and a daytime contact number. Upon subscription, TMNS will generate a TEST message to the user's cellular phone. The TEST message is used to verify that the user's service and phone support cellular text messaging. |

Receiving Notification |
When the Dean needs to notify faculty, staff and students of an emergency School closure or time of reopening after closure, the Dean (or predetermined designee) accesses the TMNS Notify page, types and sends the desired notification message. The message is immediately sent to all TMNS subscribers and to all SPH email account recipients (publichealthall@lsuhsc.edu). A notification message is only generated when deemed appropriate by an authorized official. |

Updating Subscription Profile |
Employees and students can update their TMNS profile (subscription status) anytime by logging on to the TMNS Subscribe page. Employees and students are responsible for updating their profile when they change cellular phones, cellular phone numbers or cellular provider. |

TMNS Reliability |
While the SPH makes every effort to provide a reliable method of notification for its employees and students, it is important to remember that no system is infallible. TMNS is an adjunct notification method without guarantee of service quality. The use of TMNS is voluntary and at the discretion of the employee or student. The reliability of TMNS is dependent upon the stability and function of local and wide area computer networks and vendor based cellular phone networks. A failure occurring with any of these systems, may compromise the capability to of TMNS to efficiently or reliably disseminate notifications. |
